I have a second job in a retail store (I have a full time job also). I am a hard worker and am never out sick. They hired a new woman (who also has a full time job). She calls in sick quite often, is lazy and doesn't do her share of cleaning and putting out stock, etc. - yet management loves her. What am I doing wrong? Should I go against my work ethics and start slacking off, not clean and put out stock and stay out sick all the time? I don't need this second job but I enjoy it a lot. I'm not looking for attention of approval either (I am well over age 40). Is it me or is this management team just plan dense?

You're doing nothing wrong, except doubting yourself. If it's just a 2nd PT job you enjoy A LOT and advancement isn't an issue, don't let any of the BS that goes on around there affect you. If you let some of the other crap that goes on get to you, the job will eventually become no longer enjoyable. People and life circumstances can be very confusing/odd at times. Spend your energy and time on being the best employee YOU can be and let others be what ever they want to be. Don't let yourself stoop to a lower level. Two wrongs don't make a situation right by becoming someone you're not...Good Luck.......JD

Perhaps she knows someone up there on the management ladder. Or maybe she's hot and just has that crappy charisma about her that everyone loves? Don't slack off, I'm sure you'd get in trouble over that. Sounds like management is just plain dense. Do you work at walmart? Because I used to and this sounds familiar! haha
