Why do people tend to be ignorant when it comes to Islam?

Ignorant as in every time I ask a question about Islam (Ect.) there is always at least five insults about the religon and it usually involves murder, violence, and terrorism.

Ignorant??. Are all sure of the real ignorance about the extremism in muslim countries?. Let me refresh you the memory.
In 1918, after the defeat of Germany as its allies, one of them Turkey, al middle east was under the colonial control of Britain. Despite of having fought jointly with the brits against the Turkeys, Arabs were betrayed, and instead of having their own state, their lands only changed of owners. Soon after, in the twenties, Petrol was discovered.
After WWII, and in the process of decolonisation, new countries were born, countries which had nothing to do with their history or ththeir ethnical background, but with the capacity of U.K and U.S to control them in order to assure the Petrol production.
And here starts the tragedy of integrism that we are facing now.

1)Iran: In the 50´s, after a revolution, people were called for elections, a democracy was born with a liberal constitution. First law, take control of the Petrol prudaction, which had been given to B.P by the colonial government. Result: U.S organised a "coup d´etat" which instaured a new regime, a monarchy that was responsible of more than 100.000 executions, tortures and crimes against humanity. For the U.S the explanation was easy at that times, the so called democratic government was a bunch of comunists. Once that all liberal and democratic power has been eliminated the only oposition to the regime of terror of the Sha of Persia is the extremism of Ayatollah Khomeini, who took Power 1979.

Irak: Again, in the 60´s the democratic government of Irak is accused of looking with nice eyes to Moscow, U.K secret services in collaboration with CIA promoted Baaz oposition which were in Egypt, they took power in middle 60´s, allowing Saddam Hussein to access to power at the end of the decade.

Saudi Arabia: Instead of allowing democracy, the nowadays royal family is promoted to power in order to have a truly ally in the country with the mayor oil reserves of the world. Nobody cared of the ideology of that family.

Afganistan: Does anybody saw Rambo III, or the kisses between talibans and Donald Rumsfeld?. What to say after that?.

I could follow with Argelia, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, etc..., just to find that in all of them we can find the same coctail, poverty, pro western corrupted governments, lack of freedom, etc... This is the soap in which islamist are happy, in which their demagogy can not be refuted.
So, we are ignorant of what? Of how bad they are? Or which are ththe causes that allows these ideologies to grow?. The first question for a western citizen born in a democracy is worthless, we do hate that fanatism (although may be we accept other). The ignorance to the second question makes me to be more worried.

Assuming that by ignorant, you mean lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
It would be hard for someone that does not practice the religion of Muslims to not be ignorant.

Some people believe that the Islamic belief system has been hijacked by extremists. People that use the religion for their own good.

The reason why most Americans are ignorant to Islam is because Americans have become accustomed to being free and having certain "god given" rights. Women can speak their minds and have careers.

Basically, the differences are so many in number that we are all ignorant to each other. It seems to me that those Islamic extremists are very violent and are looking for a fight. It seems like they found one.

Now, the only question is do Americans have the determination and faith to share their ideas about freedom with the rest of the world.

The only other choice is for America to become isolationists. If that happens, 20 or 30 years from now, we will find ourselves in the greatest battle of civilizations in the history of this world.

You cant blame the muslims for there ignorance...Its not all the muslims, its the extremists, yes there religion promotes violence against women, yes there religion is against modern changes but hey if you want to sit and believe everything the media feeds you then you need help....here is a positive video about Iraq.....

USA knows very little as we are mostly christian and far fewer Jews and very scattered other.
if you read some of the questions on this site too. you ll see N American Christians don't tend to know much about other religions or cultures.
theres a lot more religiosity than spirituality in the world in general.

What exactly are you talking about? If you're referring to many American reactions to the religion and their lack of knowledge of its roots, rites, and beliefs then the answer is two-fold: 1) most Americans are Judeo-Christian and 2) religion isn't taught in schools.

Because there are too many conflicting standards coming from them and how they differ in telling the truth as they know it. Too many of them to this day are illiterate, while the poor of the orient can all read and write as they become of age.
