Why Human Resources Departemnt is very important now.

Because every sod is trying to sue some other sod for some sodding reason or another and HR is a tool more than a function.
They are the face of all things company oriented and you as a manager (retail - my personal experience) are the face of the branch. You can get away with far less at a branch level if you DON'T have a competent HR dept, but on a positive, as they are their to advise, they also take the flak if the poop hits the summer cooling system!!

It depends on the size of the company as to how much they do. Usually they are the ones with the legal knowhow when it comes to hiring / firing and other "personnel" related issues. It's a good section to work in if the company's going down the pan though, you're usually guaranteed a job until the company's gone!
