I have a Jewelry and woodcraft/gift items store in a small tourist/ daytripping community, and I need to give my shop a festive and welcoming first impression so customers don't just walk on by. It has a 4' x 4' window at eye level, with an inside 'floor' at the base of the window. I absolutely must maximize it's impact because I only have 15' frontage! Any resources for ideas or helpful suggestions are much appreciated.

What about a small Christmas tree with some of the jewels as the ornaments? You could put a few wrapped boxes around the bottom and a couple of open ones with something really nice inside. You will want to keep the tree small so as to not overpower the jewelry and maybe a white one would be easier to see things on. Lay some ribbon curls around and maybe some pine cones.

I had a Tinder box shop in two diff locations with teh same problem. You want to attract attention and give the feeling of the season. I found two things help.

1) Bright colors and a good theme (for me the best was a Christmas tree and the base of the window being the floor. The tree we used we cut off so that it appeared to be much larger, just out of view. We stacked many wrapped lpackages and put an item on top of each stack, large stacks in the back, low stacks in front.

2) What I really learned from my years working with this window was that MOVEMENT is what really works best. You want something which catches the eye and something moving in a window is what works best. If the "floor" of your window is at about waist height (where mine was) we also placed a train set in the window and had it run 24/7. Even when the store was closed, it would attract the attention of passerbys. Trains are also a well recognized element of Christmas decorations.

I hope these help.

Use Dolls dressed in Victorian winter costumes to hold and display your gifts, decorate with a Currier and Ives feel, rich velvet and brocade ribbons, avoid specific holiday reference, since you cater to tourists you never know who celebrates what, and instead go for a festive and memorable decorations that show lots of joy and excitement. You could even take advantage of the folly of the season with a tipsy sign that says "Holly Happy Days" .Good Luck.

Try wrapping a bunch of empty boxes to look like gifts, use big bowes and lots of color and put them all in a pretty pile. Then use white Christmas lights and wrap it all through the pile. Put down a pretty red velvet tree skirt under the pile and lay bulbs around the edges. Use a lot of white lights to draw attention to your window.
