How do you react to being called derogatory online names knowing you will have to face the person soon?

Contacted out of the blues by someone that I barely know calling me names. This guys was always the bully type from what I know, I on the other hand prefer to stear clear of fighting. Do I just pretend I never got the message, or do I simply write back, Do I know you?
