I work at Home Depot in King County. It depends on what your doing, but you can pretty much use any type we sale.

Truth be known, topsoil is a waste of money. The roots of a grass plant extend about 4" into the soil. An inch or so of topsoil is cosmetic, although some will claim that valuable nutrients are washed to the roots with rain. The best thing you can do for your lawn is cut it with a mulching mower and fertilize it lightly once a month during the peak growing season. In the fall use a fertilizer with low nitrogen, high potassium and potash (6-24-24), again applied lightly. This encourages root growth and the lawn will not go dormant (brown) as early in the summer heat.

You can go to Home Depot and they sell either a good Kellogg "Topper" or Scott's "Turf Soil"
