I never thought I'd die alone
I laughed the loudest who'd have known
I traced the cord back to the wall
No wonder it was never plugged in at all
I took my time, I hurried up
The choice was mine, I didn't think enough
I'm too depressed, to go on
you'll be sorry when I'm gone

CHORUS:

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive
We couldn't wait to get outside
The world was wide, too late to try
The tour was over we'd survived
I couldn't wait till I got home
To pass the time in my room alone

I never thought I'd die alone
Another six months I'll be unknown
Give all my things to all my friends
You'll never step foot in my room again
You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time that I spilled the cup
Of apple juice in the hall
please tell mom this is not her fault

CHORUS:

I never conquered, rarely came
16 just held such better days
Days when I still felt alive

This song was written by Mark Hoppus while on tour with Blink-182 in the late 1990's. It deals with being lonely, sad and even grappling with the depression that being on a long tour may cause. There is information out there that says Mark wrote this in response to an email he recieved about a fan named Adam who killed himself, but I do not know how much truth there is to this. The lyrics in the first stanza "I took my time, I hurried up/ The choice was mine I didn't think enough" are derived from the Nirvana lyrics, "Take your time, hurry up, the choice is yours, don't be late" from their 1992 release, "Come as You Are." Adam's song was written after the suicide of Kurt Cobain and although Hoppus recognized Cobain's depression, Hoppus never reached the point where he took his own life. This line does support the idea that this song was specifically written for a person named "Adam" who killed himself, but perhaps this mystery adds to the song appeal and meaning of the unknown ahead. The one known fact about suicide and Adam's Song is that a survivor of the Columbine tragedy, 17-year old Greg Barnes, was found dead by his parents with this song on repeat in the year 2000.

I think he's tring to say that he wished he'd killed himself when he was younger, because at that time, he had so much hope, the world was wide and all that, but when he got older, the world wasn't what he expected it to be and it makes him kinda sad, so he's saying he wished he wouldn't have had to live through that disappointment. I think.

It's about their friend Adam who committed suicide. They are singing about what Adam felt before he died.

It is about their childhood friend Adam, seriously. I believe he committed suicide, and they wrote a song about him.
