What do you guys think about prostitution? Do you think it sould be legal or remain illegal? In my opinion, I feel that if a woman decides to sell her body to someone, that is her decision. I also feel that the person paying for it has a mind of his own also. Am I wrong in thinking this way?

I am in general agreement with you. Most of the people against prostitution are women because they don't want their husbands purchasing sex. And of course you have the religious zealots. I disagree totally with these reasons for criminalizing prostitution. However, the rationale that by criminalizing prostitution may lessen the numbers of children who are forced into prostitution and taken advantage of, does have some merit. But, I believe we could address that issue as we do with consentual legalized "free" sex. If it is loawful for women to have abortions and to choose to become pregnant, or to have sexual relations with someone who buys them diamond rings and expensive cars, or just because they want to, who is to say it is wrong for them to charge cash. This is, by the way, a country based on free enterprise. Besides, criminal defense attorneys are prostitutes. They get people off for money!

Whether or not this is the OLDEST profession...it is still a matter of choice. It is the basis of all life is DECISION or shall I say FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION. You need to realize that prostitution is a game just like your exotic dancing. People have commented on that you are SELLING your body...what are exotic dancers doing????Can this be misunderstood as the forefront of prostitution??? Your are taking a big risk in this line of work from all areas of life--diseases-stalking-pregnancies just to mention a few. So whether or not you are on the right track is not the question...The question should be--WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT THE RISKS TAKEN ARE WORTH THE SO CALLED MONEY...I stress again MONEY---That is the glamor behind the whole issue. It may be a quick fix to a financial problem but at what cost???? So THINK again about legalizing prostitution. Who wants to take the risks that accompany such a decision. This agrument has been around for years and will continue to haunt anyone who tries to come up with a solution. The ultimate DECISION is YOURS!!!!!! Perhaps in closing you should research the history of prostitution and the consequences of the act and then make the INFORMED DECISION on your question. You may scare yourself when you do the research. Good Luck.

There is no right or wrong on an issue like this; just different perspectives. For my part, I agree with you, even if its a service I wouldn't personally partake in.

Prostitution is a 'victimless crime'. Wether you feel that it is immoral or not, making it illegal simply puts people in our already overcrowded jails that really shouldn't be there. Furthermore, it makes people resort to desperate, and unsafe measures. All the dangers associated with prostitution are there because it's illegal. Pimps thrive on its illegal status, all manner of violent acts are commited toward prostitutes every year, and no one really seems to care because of their 'morality'.

In the places where it IS legal, the women get regular health checks for STDs and can practice their 'trade' in a clean and safe environment.

Any argument against legalizing it is based on a very subjective morality. When you consider how many cultures have perfectly legal prostitution, it is by no means universally agreed that it's immoral (unlike murder, rape, theft, etc). Hopefully, sometime in the future people will be less judgemental about what people choose to do with their own lives.

I think the two big problems with prostitution is:

1. It's illegal in most places making it near impossible to keep track of these men and women and make sure they are clean.

and

2. Most people are doing it for the wrong reason, to feed an addiction; rather then feed their family.

But I agree that it should be up to the person to decide. I think also that if a person wants to get a prostitute they should be required to show that they are single and present ID for records.

Nope. I totally agree with you. I could never use a hooker myself - I have to know the lust is mutual, lol - but prostitution really is a victimless crime. "But what about the wives of these men who go to prostitutes?" Well, going to a hooker is a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself...lol. And anyway, you will never, ever get rid of it - it's not the "oldest profession" for nothing. Like marijuana, it's just another stupid waste of police and court time to prosecute.

P.S. To the girl who thinks legalization would contribute to the sex slave trade - no, you are exactly wrong! These kinds of things happen BECAUSE there is a black market! Again, just like drugs.

I have thought that at times, but the reality is that pimps really run the show and take most of the money. There may be willing prostitutes, but there are many more that are trapped.

If it were legalized, I would be in favor of licensing and taxing.

You can think anyway you wont. But you will pay the consciouses of what other people think. Like I think it's sad that a woman must resort to selling the only true thing she has, and that is her pride, and dignity. What about a woman's worth. That is the ultimate betrayal to ones self, let a man piss on you, and get up,and walk off.

No wrong, but certainly not the average Joe's thinking. I've got mixed feelings about it. If prostitution were legalized and the "call girls" were earning a wage and paying taxes and social security, etc., I can't see the harm.

Aside from the obvious risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, on the surface it may not seem that bad, but sex is meant to be an intimate act between committed adults. When it is done for money only a small portion of its true value is realized. Men that use prostitutes generally have a low regard for women. Women become objects and not people to their tricks.

It generally doesn’t come with any long term benefits and careers are usually limited to the early years when woman are more physically attractive. It can be a lonely dangerous life. It devalues the human spirit.

I think it should be legal everywhere. Making it illegal hasn't made it go away. As you said, it is the oldest profession. There apparently is a huge need for it. It just needs to be monitored for STD's and to keep the prostitutes safe. Let them do it in a brothel instead of in dark alleys and in people's cars.
