You will need strong forearms for that. Do push-ups every day to strengthen your arms, forearms and wrists. Do hand-stands too. Hand-stands will help you learn where your balance is.

Hi. I have been in gymnastics for many MANY years and I was cheerleader for 8 years.
I can give you some tips, but the rest is up to you.
Don't go off of one foot.
Run fast, jump together, keep arms straight and locked (to get stronger arms lift a 2 lb weight for 10 reps each 3 days a week), spring off of your hands, plant your feet hard and stand up.
May sound easy or it may sound hard, but you'll get it. Practice first on a trampoline, then on grassy ground, then try on a harder surface when you are more confident.
Make sure you have people present since you are not in gymnastics, or you could injure yourself. Good luck!

A spotter would help a lot, someone who could watch you and make sure you don't hurt yourself.
I was unfortunate enough to not have one, so I started off with doing cartwheels first, then moved onto round offs, then eventually did hand springs, each stage I did for about a week until I felt that I was confortable enough to do go to the next level.
After 2 months, I was able to do front flips.
If you can, you should try doing it daily, or at least every other day, in order for it to seem natural.
Also be fearless, doubt and hestiation is the ONLY thing that really hurts you.

Make sure you know how to do a hurdle--like a skip and then you go into the front handspring on one foot--one poster said to not do a one footed entry into a front handspring--if you do a two foot entry into a front handspring, it is called a front handspring and is challenging even on a spring floor! I would suggest learning a front limber (front handpspring without a run....go into a handstand, let yourself bend and put your feet on the ground. Then push your hips toward the ceilling and forward and pull your hands off the ground so you're standing and facing the same way you started). Then I would try to learn the front handspring with a step out--where you land on one foot instead of two (like in a front limber)---step outs are easier than no-step outs.
As suggested in a previous post--I would also suggest to go to a local gymnastics facility and take some classes-they will be able to help you safely start becoming flexible and strong enough to perform a front handspring. At our gym, for someone who wants to learn a front handpsring, we will put out some rectangular mats called panel mats that fold up to about 8 inches---put several in a row so you have enough room to run and hurdle....put a soft mat at the end of the row. Run and hurdle on the mats, then put your hands on the end of one of the panel mats and do your front handspring onto the soft mat (it will be lower which will help your hips push forward so you have time to get on your feet). Also, make sure you are strong enough in your arms AND legs to do the front handspring! Good luck and if you have any other questions, I could probably talk gymnastics all day!

hey, i answered another one of your questions too :D. i suggest going to any gymnastics gym and ask somebody there to help you with tumbling. you dont have to necessarily take classes but have someone there to teach you the basics and spot you so you wont get hurt. look up tumbling at nearby gyms. the only real gymnastics used in cheerleading is tumbling so that is your best bet.

first, start off with a spotter.once you feel comfortable, gradually use less of a spot, until you have it on your own. DO NOT do it on a trampoline until you get it on the ground. you will get used to the extra bounce and it will be hard to adjust to it on the ground.
Good Luck!!!
