OK. Over the years, my family has had many things junked up in out closets. In every Closet in the house, there are things that we don't need anymore. So This year before thanksgiving, my family and I are going to sort thru all of the things and seperate everthing into three piles. 1)Throw out things that aren't useful anymore. 2)Keep Things that are Passed down to us. 3)Give things that are useful to other people but not to us anymore to a Thrift Store.
But the problem is, I wanted to know does the Salvation Army or any other Thrift Store that you give you items to, do they give you money for them or something like that.
My mother said that she is not putting up Christmas Decorations until everything out of the closets are out.
Please Help Me.
Thanks.

I have donated many things to the Salvation Army and to Goodwill. No they do not give you money. You can get a receipt for what you think the value is for the stuff and deduct it on your taxes.
If you are looking to make money have a garage or Yard sale.
Hope this helps.

Some thrift stores will give you money for them, some will put it on consignment. But, the Salvation Army rights up ticket for what they think its worth as a charity donation for you to turn in on your taxes.

They do not give you money, but they are happy to give you a receipt and approximately valuation for tax deduction purposes.
If you really want to *sell* your stuff, you need to check out a consignment shop or hold a yard/garage sale.
The Salvation Army or St. Vincent De Paul are both fine organizations that help the poor.

No, the Salvation Army will not give you money. That's the point, it is a donation to a worthy cause.
You could always use craigslist.com to try to sell them if you have time.

No, they don't pay you for donations. But I'm sure they'd give you a receipt for tax purposes if you want.
You could always have a garage sale and donate the money to them.

the idea of giving to the Salvation army is to give, not receive. THey are a charity, they don't give money. THey will give your parents a receipt to claim on taxes.

No they will not give you money but they will give you a receipt that you can deduct on your taxes. If you want money you should have a yard sale.
