i belive i have a tiger oscar...green w/ black n orange spots. he is turning white...My ph is around 7 and nitrates are 0. I have a 300g tank..he is about 6in long. i also have firemouths and green terror chilid and some others that are doing okay...any suggestions on why he's turning pale? i feed him various livebeares, beefheart pelletts...all the frozen stuff in the pet store.

I would guess that he/she is just pouting. If you just got him, it will take a couple of days for him to adjust, especially if there are other fish already in the tank. Oscars are very personable, and will pout whenever something changes that they dont like. Whenever I wake mine up in the morning, it goes really pale and lays on its side at the bottom of the tank. It takes him a minute or so, and then he'll come up to eat.

I used to have 4 fan-tailed goldfish who all changed color (black to gold) or (gold to black). I was feeding them goldfish pellets and I recall reading something on the back of the container that stated that the food may affect their color, but that it was a natural occurance.

Oscars shoud be cleaned by your maid on a daily basis and polished as need. Otherwise they will discolor. I polish my Best Film Oscar once a month and have never had a problem.
