Hi I have a boiler in my new flat that is supposed to provide both hot water (this is working fine) and heat (I can't get this to work). I have looked all over and can't find any name or model for the boiler. My landlord doesn't have the instructions and I have followed what he told me to do (turn up the separate thermostat on the wall) but nothing happens.

I'm afraid to just start playing with dials randomly for fear of (1) losing my hot water, which *is* working or (2) messing things up further, as gas scares me. There is a blue button with two settings, E and C. It is on C. The pilot seems to be on (green light showing). I tried switching the 0-1 setting in the middle of the clock dial thing to 1, which makes the boiler run constantly, but still no heat (left it running 24 hours and nothing, radiators remained stone cold). Does anyone recognize this as being similar to their boiler? Would very much appreciate help! Thanks

Its difficult to diagnose without knowing more but at a guess I would say either your pump has gone (being the pump that pumps the hot water round the system to heat the rads) or the diverter valve which switches between providing heat or hot water has got stuck. Either way your landlord needs to arrange for an engineer to visit and repair. xx

If you have a room thermostat try turning this up when the boiler is running you may need to do this to open a motorised valve on the central heating, hope it helps.

it sounds like a combi boiler, have you opened all the valves on your radiators, as they may be thermostatic valves, ensure they are open, or no water will run thru the system,

hope you get it working and hope this helps

My mum had the same problem a couple of days ago. She rang for advice and this is what she was told -

hit it with the wrong end of a hammer.

Seriously! So, my dad hit it with the wrong end of the hammer twice, and nothing happened. Then my mum hit it and voila! Heat!

Honestly, it worked.

Its either your three way valve or the pumps not working. you need an engineer to have a look at it.

Have you tried 'bleeding' your radiators?
