I read about this in the Oct. 25th Dear Abby.

Personally, I would never send such a letter b/c I know someone serving in a war would have enough to worry about already.

No way! If that is someone you love and care about...you would never send such a thing. Especially to a service person!

Yes, he wasn't serving in the war though, he was a clerk that spent all his off time getting drunk in Iwakuni.

It was wrong in hindsight, but should I have led him on til he came back to the states? I think that would have been worse.

That would be a very bad time to find out that the person you were trying to go home to, had moved on.
