I am doing it for the second time, now. I have Bipolar Disorder. Antidepressants are classified as "Schedule D" medications by the FDA, not because they are necessarily dangerous, but because there isn't a lot of research on it. Trouble is, NO ONE can do drug research on pregnant women, so we will never know... But of all the research out there (I've actually read several of the studies myself), there had been no significant increase in birth defects or pregnancy complications. The drugs don't cross the placenta in a concentration strong enough to cause problems, and if they do cause trouble, it's at the same statistical frequency as without the medications. My son was fine right from birth, and I was on 10 mg of Lexapro AND 100 mg of Seroquel (an antipsychotic) from conception to delivery. My psychiatrist has me go off the Lithium during pregnancy, but keeps me on the other meds b/c the risk is greater to me and the baby off them than the risk on them...
DON'T breastfeed, though!

You should not take prozac or any other anti depressents if you are trying to become pregnent, you need to consult with your doctor and set up a plan to gradually reduse your dosage, also if you have been on the *pill* (birth control) you should plan to stop taking that for a month or 2 before you conceive...so that means you will need to stock up on a non medical form of birth control (condoms). You should also eliminate alcohol and nicotine not only during pregnancy but during the time you are attempting conception.

It is not recommended, and if you do get pregnant on them, you will most likely need to come off of them. Be very careful because hormones are very strong during pregnancy and those on any type of antidepressant can find themselves dealing with a greater realm of emotions.

No, it isn't safe.
"Fluoxetine is in the FDA pregnancy category C. Babies exposed to fluoxetine and/or other drugs of the same class may develop medical complications. Discuss the risks with your doctor. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
Fluoxetine passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Do not take fluoxetine without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby."
