If the cats come and eat it, are the cats to blame?

This is what the top muslim religious leader in Australia said in his sermon yesterday, according to BBC news.

Apparently if such a woman is raped, it is her fault.
Apparently women are like a piece of meat and , Muslim men can behave like alley cats and take their fill.
Australia is buzzing and its prime minister conemmed it

Are Muslims really fit to live in our countries and why did we allow them in? Their religion and culture are utterly incompatible with ours.
Grateful to have your thoughts

I'll get straight to the point, if a woman is raped, it is not her fault. Everyone is always personally accountable for their own actions, nobody "makes you commit a crime." It is NEVER the victim's fault, regardless of where she was or what she was wearing.
If I leave my car unlocked, does that give you the right to steal it? Would Muslim men like it if somebody started up a campaign saying for example, any man who wears a beard or wears shorts, wants to be shot or sodomized? Of course not. They might comply out of fear, but it may not be their preference. Likewise, women do not want to be attacked for what they choose to wear or not wear. People are capable of reducing the forced sexual attacks on women if they stop using their religion as permission to rape women. To hear a religious leader condone such attacks shows extremely poor social responsibility! Is that really what their God would want? Is that really a religion you would want to follow?

Using rape as a consequence for not wearing a headcovering is an attempt to control the way women dress or what they may do. It is also makes the statement that men have so little self-control around women that they cannot help themselves if they physically & violently attack her. Is that really true? If so, then that is wrong. There are laws and consequences for assaulting other members of civilized societies.

For the record, what they wear does not really prevent rape there anyways. It still occurs everywhere. Rape prevention is better addressed by holding people responsible for controlling their own actions and their own anger. Forcing a dress code on the women is a form of oppression.

Lastly, it is wrong & offensive to refer to women as "pieces of meat." It shows very little respect for women. Women are human beings, just like men are. They are not the sexual property of another. People are capable of treating each other with equal respect if they choose to. Wearing a headscarf should be optional, but never out of fear of being raped without one.

I agree with you that culture & mindset, if it remains unflexible, is incompatible with the ways of life in more civilized parts of the world where societies place a greater emphasis on personal freedoms & on a sense of equality.

In summary, individuals should be responsible for their own personal behavior & people should treat each other with respect, male & female. Rape should not be allowed to occur in the name of any religious belief!

first of all, the proclamations of one muslim leader does not necessarily reflect the morals of all. same with any kind of leader.

secondly, your us-vs-them mentality is disturbing. what do you mean, "why did we allow them in"? muslims have every right to be anywhere on this planet as any other kind of people. and who are you representing when you say "ours"? your culture is not the only one on the planet. just because something is in the minority does not make it invalid.

while i do not agree with the offensive statements made by the muslim leader, he still has the right to say what he believes without the threat of being thrown out of a country. basic human rights still apply even when a person's views are not mainstream.

Franco: please state the facts correctly, not your assumptions by twisting and adding spice to create more hatred:

“If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street, on the pavement, in a garden, in a park, or in the backyard, without a cover and the cats eat it, then whose fault will it be, the cats, or the uncovered meat’s? The uncovered meat is the disaster."

When nuns around the world covers their head, they are doing it for the right cause, for God, and no one, not a single soul ever tells them to change their appearence. But when mulim women wants to wear it for whatever reason it is, every one condems them and they are labelled as being oppressed, and it becomes the buzz around the country... WOW...

Women from the times of Abraham, Moses, Jesus have always been potrayed as being modest and they are always wearing a head scarf to cover their hairs... as a sign of respect for the creator, the GOD, so now you know why they cover their heads.

I think that the top religious leader in Australia should be hung by his b***s! It is NEVER a woman's fault if she is raped. If she walks around NAKED, she is only accountable for indecent exposure. Nobody has a right to do that to another person. NOBODY. Anyone who thinks otherwise should be castrated without anesthetics or antibiotics and force fed the leftovers.

That might be is veiw but don't be ignorant. When ever you get to many cultural differents in one area there is going to be disagreements and that is how most wars are started. Who are we to judge there beliefs. Are you sure are beliefs is right.

Most people I have met from that area of the world have little or no respect for women anyway so that report is very unsurprising. If a western person moves to their country we are expected to adapt to their culture/way of life but when they come here we're expected to accommodate them and change some of our ways. I'm not racist but do get angry when people who CHOOSE to live in UK/US spout nothing but hatred for our way of life.

Well...let me see...Christians trying to spread the word are bad in their eyes...against their religion. Now, some minor religious leader in his own religion is telling the world what he thinks they should do?? Screw him...this is America & was built on religious & social freedom. If he feels he has to tell us what to do, he can go back to his caves & rule people who want to be ruled like that. They should not be allowed to tell people what they should think or do. Any more than he would bow to what anyone from Christianity rules him to do.
Back to the caves with them...
