I do not favor abortion, unless it is necessary due to a life-threatening situation. But I figure if we have abortion legalized, why isn't stem cell research allowed to be practiced?
If abortion is permitted to take place and stem cell research is not, then where are the aborted fetuses going? Into the garbage? Is that ethical?
I suppose abortion and stem cell research should go hand-in-hand because at least the aborted fetuses will be going to good use helping people...instead of being thrown away!
Don't you agree?

Stem cell research should be funded more, in my opinion.

Stem Cell research is legal. The Bush administration came up with a compromise between the people who believed it would create more abortions which they oppose and the people who wanted fetal stem cell research.
The research would remain legal but the government would only pay for the research on 7 lines.
I am pro choice and favor research but I believe this is a good compromise.

When you get an abortion you sign away all the rights to the fetus the medical folks are the ones that have to figure out what to do with it. The thing about stem cell research is it is basically using waste from a surgery or on the other hand unborn children it is a political and ethical debate.

Stem cell research was legal until the religious conservatives made it a hot topic.
These people want ot ban abortion no matter who suffers. No matter if a woman's life is at risk. No matter if it's a 13 yr old girl who was an incest victim and alread mentally unstable from the abuse. No matter if the embryo is malformed & has zero chance of survival out of the womb. What it is are control freaks who want to dictacte some aspects of everyone elses' private lives no matter what.

There are 2 different types of stem cell research and that is where the controversy lies. One is embryonic stem cell which comes from the umbilical cord and the other from other stem cells. Until people understand the difference there will always be a legal issue.

The first idiot has the correct answer, although he smeared it with ignorance before giving it to you.
There is no federal funding, but not illegal. Since much of the stem cell research is done by Pharmaceutical companies, perhaps they can fund their own? Last I looked they could cut some stock options to the management team for a couple years and fund all they need.
But then, I am a conservative on many issues, so according to many people on this site, I breath fire and eat young puppies for breakfast so don't listen to me...........

yes. the embryos (it becomes a fetus later on) should be put to good use. but some people probably don't know that they are left over from IVF.
I hear that embryonic stem cells aren't very promising. but we haven't done enough with them to tell! I'm tired of all this "protect the rights of the unborn" bull. it is more important to protect those already living.

It is legal... completely legal.. the problem before is they were trying to push for government funding for it.. and Congress passed it, but Bush vetoed it.. due to his own religious beliefs.. reason 100,000,001 reasons I don't like Bush

That (my dear pro-life friend) is called American Government Hypocresy and you will find it everywhere. You're given all the freedom you want unless it interferes with their agenda. Be a "good American" and don't worry about it, unless you've cancer or any other sickness that could be cured by SCR. :)

I guess because not all fetuses that didn't go to term, are "abortions".
