I think it goes back to the book of Genesis when God said that a man should leave his mother and cleave to his wife and become one.

My priority goes children wife than parents. The future is more important than anything(except god).
A man's wife is the other half that makes him whole and vice versa so since you take priority over your parents so too does your wife.

growing up your parents are your priority as they nurture and guide you to prepare you for adulthood. making good decisions. choosing a partner. once you choose a partner, you are starting your own priority. your wife is your new partner therefore your priority. when you are married, your parents are not responsible for the decisions made as a married couple. they can be looked to for guidance and advice, but your wife is your mate. not your parents. as parents age, it may be necessary to make decisions regarding their care, but they should not interfere or take priority over your wife and/or kids.

This is different for people from different cultures. If your Mother, your Wife, and your Child were drowning, and you could only save one, which would you save.
Most Americans say they would save the Child. People from other cultures usually say Mother, and others Wife.
This type of survey has been done many times. There is also data from actual events. Sad to say, real people are sometimes faced with this dilemma.

You leave your parents to bond with your wife, because she will be your partner for the rest of your life. However, it's not a good idea to allow your wife to alienate you from your parents. You must have a good balance.

when you start your own family, with your wife, your responsibility is to that family first. your parents should not be excluded from your life, but part of growing up is getting out on your own to make a life for yourself. if you cling to your parents too much, you're not doing that. plus, ladies don't like too much of a mama's boy. love your mother, that's okay, but your wife comes first.

its not that your wife is your priority over, she is now your partner, yes your parents are still ur priority but now u have a new one.

I agree with farmgirl. You'll be spending a majority of the rest of your life with your wife, and children, if you have any. They should be your main priority.

I think that you should always put your spouse before everyone. Including your parents. You don't have sex with your parents. You will spend the rest of your life with your spouse. This is why there is so many divorces today because people don't take it seriously and put things like mommy and daddy before their spouse. I know people that have put other things before their spouse and their not married anymore.
