That's a toss-up. The effect of BOTH systematically murdering the brightest minds of the day are still being felt(scientist jews were slain with all the others..and for Stalin anyone who had a new idea was sent to a gulag).

They both had equal successes in war. Germany couldn't breach russia...I call that success, but Germany had already conquered Austria, Poland and France, then nearly england too, before the allies stopped Hitler at last.

Politically, both were equally successful in finding a scapegoat and in slaughtering them outright. Both were adored by the masses...

This is a tough question...but I have to say Stalin. I believe his "Cult of Personality" was stronger. Even during the highest of the Reich, Hitler had "modest" critics among his generals. To speak against Stalin at all meant imprisonment or worse. It didn't matter who you were.

Stalin. It is an easy calculation - Stalin's legacy was to conquer eastern European and enslave it under Marxism-Leninism from 1945 till 1989, he did the same in North Korea which is under the same regime, and he supported Mao's communist revolution in China. Hitler may have controlled half of Europe for a few years, but Stalin controlled it, the entire USSR from the Baltic Sea to the Pacific Ocean. Mongolia and North Korea for many year after that. Stalin's death toll was 30 million.

Stalin was clearly more powerful; Russia is about 6 times the size of Germany, has a considerably larger population, more resources, and he ruled for longer.

I'd say Stalin. When Hitler died, Nazi Germany went with him. When Stalin died, the USSR survived for another 35+ years and influenced events in numerous countries.

Of course Adolf Hitler. At his peak he controlled almost all of Europe. Unlike Stalin no one at home disliked him.

Hitler-he had the power to secretly practice genocide on Jewish people and through propaganda convinced the public that it was their own fault. Over-simplified, but basically accurate.
