A warrant WILL be issued for his arrest. Police will not go out of their way in looking for him but if he is stopped at any time and his I.D. is checked , he will be arrested and taken before a judge or justice of the peace. At that time he is given bail, usually his own recognisance, and given another court date. Speeding tickets are minor, call the court and send payment of the ticket. The ticket becomes major because of what happens when you don't pay. Clear it up.
P.S.
Warrants for speeding tickets are province-wide so if stopped anywhere else except Quebec, absolutely nothing will happen. If he has a Quebec driver's license and or plates for his car, that is also when you may have to pay the fine , when you go to re-new either, they force you to pay all tickets and fines before renewing them.

I'd call the courthouse and ask. There's a chance the officer who issued the ticket didn't show up either. As long as there wasn't an additional charge like reckless or careless driving, then I don't think it will be too much of a problem. There is usually, a "guilty" fine, which you agree to what is on the ticket, and it usually a lower fine (almost like a discount), then there is a challenge/late fine which is higher, if you challenge it in court and loose then you will pay this higher fine. There is an 'x' number of days in which to pay the "guilty" fine, (I think it's 15 days), any time after than then you have to pay the higher fine. By missing the court date and assuming that the officer did show up, then he would have been automatically found guilty and will have to pay the larger fine. It's not a huge deal. He will have to pay the fine, though, before he renews his license.

He should contact the court and tell them he missed his court date and he would like to know what the fine is so he can pay it and if there is anything else he needs to do. In Michigan if you get a ticket and don't pay it you will lose your license. You need to contact the court within 10 days to either fight it or pay it but in other countries I have no clue.

Don't worry! There will be no warrant just yet! He'll get a document in the mail saying he now has to pay the fine (which may have increased a bit) and if he pays it in time then it will be fine. It's if he doesn't pay it that there will be a problem.

Rest easy, it will be fine!

they will prolly just make him pay the fine. By not showing up they just assume he is guilty. He wont go to jail for a speeding ticket.

They will prolly just issue a bench warrant. But if you just go down there. Pay the fee and everything they will just lift it
