cotton socks used to be a luxury only rich people could afford so if someone had 100% cotton anything it would be like winning the lottery to the working class .... not sure where it came from

I know that when people say God bless you after a sneeze it was an attempt to protect the person. The belief goes your heart would stop for a minute and the phrase was supposed to protect when your where vulnerable. Maybe the blessing on the baby is meant in the same vain. As for the socks, it probably means every bit of him be blessed. That's my guess.

There was once a priest - I cant remember his name - who used to give children in his village cotton socks blessed with holy water. People then said "Bess your cotton socks" refering to this preist - I think people said this taking the miky out of him.
Hope this helped.

toddlers are harmless in the eyes of God. Jesus won't punish an harmless individual, so he blesses the youngsters, whom he loves. of direction, it quite is not asserting that undesirable issues on no account ensue to toddlers, yet that may no longer by way of fact of any undesirable deeds that the toddler has achieved, yet by way of fact of yet another's sins. it is what it is... Jesus blesses the harmless.
