I just saw the cutest rings today and I'm thinking of getting them for me and my boyfriend (they'd make each of us remember that we are wanted and needed by our each other when we are apart)! I was just wondering what fingers should I get the rings for(obviously, the left hand ring finger is out of the question)? Do any other fingers have a meaning tied to them? Also, do you think it's cheesy to get promise rings?

The only reason I said the left hand ring finger was out of the question was because I'm saving that for a special ring! If I ever get to wear one! Promise rings are special, true, but I want to put a traditional ring on that finger to signify that my love is indeed my mister for the rest of my life!

why is the left hand ring finger out of the question?? It's your hand/your ring/your life.....no I think promise rings are a sweet idea......use your right hand if you must.

I would say any finger but the left hand ring finger. Save that until you are allowed to get married. Although, actually, if you want to get engaged in anticipation of being able to marry, go ahead and use the same finger engaged straight couples use.

I think a promise ring would be beautiful for both of you! Not the least bit cheesy. In some countries the ring finger of the left hand is used for engagement rings and the same on the right hand for wedding rings. I know of no special meaning for the other fingers, but thumb rings would be awkward, and I think a ring on the index finger would be in the way. The middle finger has some negative connotations. So unless you're getting engaged, I'd say go for pinky rings.

How about the ring finger on your right hand? Though, traditionally, promise rings are worn on your left hand ring finger. They pretty much signify the same thing as an engagement ring so why not? Unless it makes you uncomfortable to wear it there, then I would go with the right hand.

I don't think that it's cheesy........And put it on WHATEVER finger you feel appropriate......I think it's a sweet idea!!! Just because you are homosexual doesn't mean you are any different from straight people, so really if you choose the left hand ring finger, I don't see the problem. Who cares what the meaning is for that hand and that finger....I didn't realize that it was only limited to those who have partners of the OPPOSITE sex.

Left hand middle finger...it's the prefect spot for a ring that represents something that only you and him need to know.I know that's were I wear my memory\gay ring( it reminds me of a beautiful weekend we spent together) every time I take the time to look at it, the feelings that I had that weekend all come rushing back and it feels so good...it really gives me warm fuzzy feeling, especially when we are apart.

I wear my wedding band and engagement ring on my left hand second finger. My husband wears his on the traditional finger.

My girlfriend and I have been together 14 years. We became domestic partners in the state of california 13 years ago and have always worn our rings on our left hand (married finger).

why not just wear them on the ring finger of your right hands, if your worried about the left hand, you would both know what they meant and anyone noticing matching rings with a brain would too.

any finger you like, even start your own tradition. This way it will mean more, because it's more personal.
