Aquaman is one awesome character, but most writers don't handle him well. He's incredibly strong, tough and his communication abilities are sooooo underused.
Alex Ross's "Justice" series is great reading for anybody interested in Aquaman and the rest of the Justice League.

Aquaman is a great character who has been too little used in recent years. He and his wife Mera were the FIRST comic book (superhero) couple to get married; they even beat Reed and Sue Richards...!
Aquaman IS super strong on the surface, due to his body being adapted to the enormous pressuresof the ocean depths; but that hasn't been emphasized enough. And his telepathy IS capable of affecting other kids of creatures than fish, it's just that he is in contact with fish more than any other species. Writers who limit him in those ways just aren't displaying any of the supposed good imagination they needed to get hired by DC!
I feel bad for Aquaman, having lost his wife and child and hand. It seems like every time the editors decide to freshen up a character, they do so my making him suffer. They should try it themselves for a change. Aquaman deserves another shot at things. Maybe when global warming makes the oceans rise a hundred feet, Aquaman will be King of Boston, New York City, Washington DC, Miami, New Orleans, L.A., San Francisco, etc, etc. See who laughs at him then...!

In the right hands, like on "Justice League", he can be a pretty kick-*** character.
In the wrong hands, like on Superfriends, he gives new definition to the word "Lame-o".

Completly underrated. anybody who can easily handle the pressure of the deep sea has to be extremely strong.
