Go anywhere in the world and count the McDonald's restaurants. It's scary. These US businesses operating in foreign countries = US interest abroad. Should any country decide to bar these US companies from operating there (like Cuba), then US interest is threatened and US defends its interests militarily, or with sanctions. However, aside from automobile vendors, how many foreign companies have huge presences in the US?

How are we imposing "our culture on other countries"? We have a multitude of cultures living amongst us. Fighting for "freedom" or "policing the world" seems to be a negative imposition on many. Sometimes I think it would be best just to fight our own battles and leave the world alone. But, then we would be carrying another negative of not "taking part in the worlds well being". Pick your poison.

The country that is the USA is a completely positive influence. Freedom, democracy, and the undeniable success of capitalism over communism/socialism. All the negative culture is coming from Hollywood, which I would argue is a different planet. We in the heartland don't claim them either.

Regarding culture (TV, McDonalds, etc.), I don't think that the U.S. is "imposing" its culture - I think that segments of the population are ASKING for American cultural items. Bush and Clinton didn't send soldiers into Botswana, stick a gun to someone's head, and say, "Drink this Coca Cola."

A displacement of what they have for our way of life (which, of course, works and functions like a charm), so that the indigenous culture is supplanted and marginalized.
Do I really need to go to Tahiti and see a Starbucks, a McDonald's, A KFC?

The USA is not imposing its culture on other nations...
Either negatively or positively....
Though there is certainly a lot of positive cultural influence that
we could offer many barbarian nations..

We're not.
The only thing we "impose" on other countries is freedom for the citizens to make their own choices. Are you suggesting that some people are really happier living under a brutal dictator, and we should just mind our own business?

If by culture you mean democracy, then yes we are. And I don't think the muslims are very willing to adopt it.
