Looking at pro-hockey teams, a majority of the players shoot left handed. Is this because they teach players to shoot left handed, even if they are right handed? Or is there some reason left handed people are better at hockey?

Shooting left or right-handed doesn't always have much to do with what hand you normally are.

When you're stickhandling, the dominant hand is the top hand.
For righties, that means shooting left-handed gives you more stick control and is often a more natural movement. So, a right-handed person is often immediately more comfortable with a left-handed stick.

I've always been a lefty in hockey, although I'm usually a righty in baseball (because again my right hand would be on top in a bat grip).

It is because it is easier to control the stick with the right hand in the high position and the left in the lower position when you are young. Most kids normally go that way when first learning to shoot. Now the really good players can go both ways with either hand depending on the side of the ice they will be playing. And use that a stick with the curved blade toward the middle of the ice because of the boards.

Typically you want the dominant hand on top to control the stick better. I'm right handed and I learned to play with a right handed shot because I thought that was correct. Years later I tried to switch over to left for better stick control, but it didn't work out. Instead I worked on strenghtening my left hand, that has helped.

Most of the people who shoot left are right handed.

think there others gave a good reason. yup, but if i may add alittle,

for right handers, as in i write with my right hand. if i use a right stick, i;m immediately gonna be able to shoot better, compared to my left. (or maybe thats just me)

and i;m better at playing the puck close to me, becaue my right hand is further down the stick, i have more control

however, when i;m flying down the ice, with the stick in my left and i break away, i use only my left hand to control the puck. this gets alittle hander for me .

so to put it simply, with your stronger(command) at the butt , i'll be able to play 1 handed better.

but i;m already too comfortable with my right stick so i cant change, so it;s time to learn skating with my left.

haha

hope thios helps

I shoot right, and I'm left handed. However I play golf left-handed.
When I play goal, I catch right. I catch left and throw right playing baseball.

Jeeze... talk about ambidextrous.

Whoa, whoa...

Just because you shoot left doesn't mean you're left handed.

I'm very right handed, and I shoot left.

It's just what your preference is, what feels right. It doesn't have anything to do with what hand you write with or whatever else it is you usually do with that hand.

it is simply how you are born. we are eye, hand, and leg dmoinate. so if you are, for example, right eye dominate, left hand dominate, and right foot dominate you will shoot one particular way.
