My CD R/W burner is not recognized by my system. I can play anything on it. But, I can not write to it. Is a driver different from a burner program. Because I have updated the driver, but still no success. I check the manufacturer site, and there is nothing but a driver. Can you help please

Yes a driver is entirely different from a burner program. Windows XP has a very basic burner program built it. If you have a blank CD in the drive you can right click on the file and select send to... and then select the drive letter of your CD burner. Your CD burner should have come with burning software. That is it will if you bought and it was not just given to you from someone upgrading their machine. At any rate you can very easily download any of various burning programs. Downloads.com will have a ton of then for you to choose from. I personally like the new version 6 of Nero. It came with my burners and I think it does a pretty good job.

Taking your statements in opposite order: "i'm baffled why Plextor doesn't contain the SW even as i purchase the burner..." - this relies upon on even if to procure the pressure at retail, or purchase a unadorned, or OEM, pressure, from an information superhighway save. If it became the latter, burning software does not be lined. Drives bought in retail packing bins usually contain software. "Is there a connection between Plextor and Acer...Adaptec (I have a Jaz pressure and SCSI in yet another pc, yet not this one)" - none that i comprehend of. "How do i come around the right CD-R/W "recording software" for my CD burner? i'm in basic terms now getting round to stumble on my Plextor PlexWriter 12/10/32A. The Plextor information superhighway website exhibits i need to purchase "recording software" elsewhere." - like all different experts, i'd recommend searching on the most cutting-edge version of Nero, because it really is going to help any favourite CDRW pressure, besides as maximum cutting-edge DVD+/-RW drives. in case your Plextor is an ATAPI/IDE pressure and not in any respect SCSI, there are some freeware classes you are able to attempt besides - DeepBurner, and CDBurnerXP professional, oth accessible on Snapfiles.
