What I mean is, how can someone share a file with me so that I need not download it myself?

If you have administrator privileges on the computer and if the other person has not disabled the sharing option in his account, you can do the following:

My Computer -> C -->Documents and Settings --> Username (if there are multiple users, you will see folders with each user's name. select the one that you want)

Once you do this, you can access shared documents of that user. Ask that person to copy the files and paste it into the shared documents folder so that you can access them. The shared documents folder is located in My computer.

Also be sure to make sure that the other user has not made his account inaccessible to other users on that computer. If he has, ask him to change the settings otherwise you will not be able to see his shared folder. To change these settings, he will have to do the following in his login:

Start --> Control Panel -->User Accounts and then change his preferences to allow sharing of documents with other users on that computer.

I hope this helps.

If you plan on transferring files or putting them on the computer so all users have access to them, you can simply save them into the "shared documents folder" most commonly positioned on "my computer". That's if your using Windows operating system, with another such as Linux it's slightly different.

What kind of files? If from their e-mail, you can't.

If from their "My Documents", you have to be an administrator on the computer, not a limited user, then you go to the directory where the files are located and copy them to your My Documents.

Just have them email that file to you.

They could always move it to their My Shared Files folder, but they would need to have sharing enabled.

You would also have to be in the same Workgroup for that to happen.

Your question is not very clear but it sounds like you are having security issues. Does the other person know you trying to do this? If so and all else fails get a thumb-drive download and put it where you want it.
