I made the mistake of laughing when my 11mth old daughter found her nose with her index finger pretty much by accident (or so it looked) last week and now she thinks this is the greatest game. She wont stop putting her finger in her nostril now! I'll gently push her hand away, and she'll start giggling, then use the other hand. She even had a finger from each hand up her nostrils at the same time tonight during dinner. I wouldnt be so grossed out if she wasnt doing this at meal time - finger up her nose, then fingers grab peas, then fingers and peas go in her mouth. Yuck! I've already messed up by laughing, ideas on what to do now?

Just push her hand away and say "no no..yucky." She will get tired of you pushing her hand away because it won't be fun game anymore--it'll just be her sticking her finger in her nose and you pushing it away.

LOL... that takes me back a little. When my son was 6 months old, he had the most horrible cold, and I promised him, that when he learnt to pick his fingers in his nose, I wouldn't stop him ( only because his nose was repeatedly clogged and I had to use a nasal aspirator and he hated it)
Until the day he was a year old, and finally learnt how to do it.. I laughed, same as you, and for a little while, it was funny, and I was happy that he had learnt something else.

Then he wouldn't stop.. and the cure was ignoring him. It took a little while, because he couldn't understand why I had laughed about it and thought it was cute one day to completely ignoring the behavior the next, and he tried to make me laugh with it, and he tried to be cute again.. and after a week of him not getting any attention about it (good or bad) he stopped.

Just ignore her. Completely ignore the fact that she has her fingers up her nose and eventually, she'll realize that you don't give her a reaction anymore. She'll stop. She's only doing it because you like it, and now she's getting negative attention for it.. but it's all the same to a baby, it's all attention in the end. So just ignore it and let her stick her fingers up her nose to her hearts content. It won't last much longer.

Don't make such a big deal out of it and she will stop when it's no longer such an attraction. Keep in mind though that children find thier noses and the treasures within very interesting until at least until school age. It is part of them discovering themselves. She will discover other parts too that you may not be happy about but it is just the way kids are.

Aww I can't help but smile over here. I mean kids are cute. Besides it's not like she is picking your nose and then eating peas. She looks young in that picture... but really what i've heard is get her attention on something else... when she does that distract her with something else. Give it a shot, couldn't hurt.

Ignore this, or otherwise she'll be putting peas up her nose at dinner, and you'll be taking her to the ER to have them removed.

She does it for the laughter -- a ham, err, I mean star is born!!

Hey thats kinda funny but in that situation i guess that maybe if you give her some toys to keep those hands busy she wont pick at it as much. sinse shell probably be busy with her toys. and maybe the toys should make noises or have flashing lights that might also help keep her distracted....
