why not just give everybody reperations!?

GIve the Repubs enough time in office and just about anything that hurts large corporations will be illegal.

You know, at the risk of getting tons of hate mail from my 'brethren', I have to agree with you. I personally think the whole 'reperations' idea to be a tad ludicrous. I mean, really. I was just reading an article about a month ago about a group of (I think 8) African Americans who were suing a number of large financial institutions for reparations. Why? Well because they had proof that these companies were involved in slavery eons ago.
No one is saying slavery was a good thing. I think we all agree it was bad/wrong, but come on! We live in an entirely different time and age where things are different. If you insist on some special treatment, trust me, they have that as well: Affirmative Action.... What do you need to get paid for? Were YOU in the fields picking cotton? Are you able to pinpoint ONE negative aspect of your life that has come to be as a DIRECT result of slavery? No.
I don't think anyone needs to be paid for anything like that. I personally think it to be a desperate attempt to get paid for what you haven't worked for. No pun intended... I know what I wrote... no... YOU were not a slave. You're working today, (maybe for a white man, maybe not) but you get paid and you get benefits, just like every other American. If you don't like what you get, or feel like you deserve more, change jobs.

You can't make it illegal to ask for anything. However if the government caves and gives these people something for nothing I say then let's all give them TWO things...their "reparations" and a ticket back to Africa so they can go "home" once and for all. Do I sound racist? Yep! Am I? Nope. Just tired of the black people blaming me and my generation for wrongs done to their ancestors by mine. To all black people...read this carefully....I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR ANCESTORS AND I REFUSE TO BE MADE TO FEEL GUILTY BECAUSE OF IT! My advice to you is put your hat on straight, buy some pants that fit, and get a job!

Slavery; truly was something for nothing. Kidnappers without shame capturing, enslaving, raping, dividing families for profits for the slave-owners benefits and now their descendants cry foul. How shameful coming a person of Texas; considering it was stolen too!

Only once the white people who hire minorities to do their housework are legally required to do their own housework from now until the end of time...
Umm, since when do White people not ask for money they don't earn? It's called "welfare", and you could probably find PLENTY of white people who collect government cheese.
Why don't you keep your money, you seem like you could use it to buy yourself some education!

You can't make it illegal to ASK. Asking does not mean they will receive.
David Horowitz wrote an entire book on this subject. Very illuminating.

no need to make it illegal,i say pay,have the U.S. gov. right a check to every slave that was in America,then find their grave site and but it in side of their coffin,and ask forgiveness for the suffering the United States inflicted on them,as far as their kin folk that were not slaves they do not get anything,because they were not slaves,

Whether or not it would be feasable for the government to give reparations to black people is not the point.
The point is that black people have every right to be mad, and if your cracker #ss can't understand that than why don't you do us all a favor and take off the white hood and shoot yourself in the face.

There is no big movement for reparations now. It's basically a non issue at the moment. If they knock on your door asking for reparations, "just say no".
