If you look at the numbers, 680 000 dead and the whole population of Iraq 28 million- does this mean that 2.3% of Iraq's population have died because of the war?

Is there any hope of rebuilding? There's today an exodus of Iraqis to Europe and other countries leaving Iraq bereft of its most skilled workers. I personally think that unless something changes soon, a formerly developed nation will not be so developed anymore. Iraq will become a dead nation, with only religious institutions active.

There is not 680,000 dead. There is 65,000 dead.

The Lancet study surveyed 49 families, no social scientist would even consider such a small sampling, in such a tribal country where there is a posibity of multiple recounts.

The 680,000 number was bad science, so bad the authors refused to publish it. The Lancet chose to do so as part of their anti-war politicism; throwing their credibilty away to play politics.

For the sake of argument, let's suppose the Lancet number is correct. (It is probably tenfold too large, actually.) Then blame the terrorists, who wish to achieve a totalitarian state by this murder and chaos. Don't blame the side trying to give Iraqis freedom, the side fighting the very murderers responsible for nearly all the deaths.

In WWII, after the U.S. entered the war the number of civilians murdered by the Germans (and Japanese) went drastically up. Are those deaths the fault of the U.S.? Of course not.

It is right to fight evil. And, when fighting evil, one should not be surprised if evil forces fight back and use despicable means to win--like killing many innocents. And, one cannot make the mistake of thinking that those evils are the fought of anyone but the evil forces.

yes your right, 2.3% per cent of the population of iraq hve died because of the invasion, a lot more then when under saddam hussain rule, in vietnam it was 7 per cent,3 million killed mostly children just like in iraq, vietnam at that time only had a population of 17 million.so in other words iraq has been put back by a hundred years, hve u seen any pictures or clips of new hospitals, schools, or other infastructure, no i haven,t ,nor hve the world, iraq's money is being laundered out of the country, thier people will allways be oppressed and poor.remeber iraq produces over $170 barrels worth of oil a day.does haliburton come to mind.

iraq cannot do much any more. they were once a developed, safe, beautiful and religiously rich country, but now nothing is left. hundreds of people are dieing every week, homes are being bombed...much of it is being destroyed. the international community should be doing more than just watching the news unravel on CNN...the americans will not do much to fix it.

680,000 is much exagerated, do the math, that is about 532 iraqi's a day, about 22 per hour or about 1 every three minutes.
