who agrees with me that kids should ask how santa is and how are his reindeer and things instead of just asking for toys right away?

I've never written a Santa letter before so I never thought about it but you're totally right. It's the gracious way to begin a letter.

Zoey, I agree, .. let me share what I have been doing for over 5 years now as a volunteer for my son's school classroom. During the holiday season, parents are encouraged to come in, to plays games, bring treats, share cultures/celebrations, etc,, My "special" craft has been making REINDEER FOOD.. I bring all the supplies which consist of ... 3 Boxes of Quaker Oats plain oatmeal, sugar, red food dye, and index cards, also popsicle sticks and those small dixie cups, (mostly used for gurgling mouthwash). I also use a stamp pad with red/green ink, and allow the children to stamp the back of the index card to personalize it a bit more, leaving out various stamps, like Santas, Christmas tree, a cross, a reindeer, their choice.
Basically you mix all the ingrediants, putting about a cup full of the oats into a ziploc bag. In cups, add 1/4 cup sugar, with 1 drop of food coloring, and stir. This is merely for festive look. Then dump sugar in bag. I write a poem on the board, and I'm not sure where it's origin came from, probably something I found online, so if you're really intersted, I just have to dig thru a few Xmas storage boxes to get it. Assemble into little snack baggie.

The kids really love this, and I do too.. on the Eve of Christmas, we head out to the yard, and scatter the mixture about.. to feed the reindeer.. After all, Santa gets cookies, and I'm sure the reindeer get hungry also.. there are recipes similiar that use glitter, but nocturnal animals consume the oats and the sugar is scattered, and I'd hate to feel like I'm putting metal flakes out for those critters to eat,, so go with the the sugar for "glittery" effect.

Kids wake up and always check the front yard, and they haven't been disappointed yet, finding it all GONE.. have fun, and it's a great, interactive, way to teach love of animals, and compassion, and to share in the traditions of Christmas. Be well!

I helped my brothers and sisters write letters each year..I always make sure they add that in there before asking for gifts..They have now learned that it is the right thing to do and the look forward to asking about Mrs.Clause and the reindeers.. I look forward to seeing what they can come up with each year..Last year my brother added a note at the bottom of the page telling Santa to make sure he buckled up..LoL.

I agree with you. a little consideration goes a long way. Before he gets the letter started spark his imagination a little to promt him asking questions at first. Things like, what kind of cookies is Santa's favorite, how many elves do you think live at the North Pole, What does Santa do when he isn't checking his list. I'm sure this conversation will bring the spirit of the holiday to your heart as any child can.

Hohoho :)
I agree. I suggest you tell them to leave some milk for Santa and carrots for his reindeers.
Here is a story on how to spot Santa's reindeer:

And they can write to Santa at:

I never thought of that but that's a cute idea! It'd probably be a nice change for all the people who answer the Santa letters.

I definately agree - Teach your children to care about people, not things. That is my philosophy. They can include a list of what they would "like" for christmas - just to make Santa's job a little easier, he's a busy man you know!

I do. Another tradition my brother started with his children was when they put milk and cookies out for Santa, they also put carrots out for his reindeer.
