I'm interested in buying a Dodge Caliber, but instead of test driving with a sales person, I was thinking of renting one from Avis, or whatever, for a couple of days. Can I do that? Has anyone else ever done this?

You can tell a rental company that you are interested in a specific model BUT they cannot guarantee it for you. If you see what you want on the car lot, ask if that car is available for rental.

This is how I've rented C-Class Mercedes and BMW 325i's from Budget Rent-A-Car.

For Dodge Caliber - you can try Enterprise, Thrifty or Dollar. Avis deals with GM products - Hertz deals with Ford products.

Yes, Its a great way to take a two or three day test drive - plus you get to see how the car holds up with a few miles on it.
