Alot of people will have their own experiences, and those experiences will dictate which software they prefer.
The software I perfer is McAfee Security Suite as I've had a bad experience with Norton. However a couple of friends of mine have had bad experiences with Mcafee & perfer Norton.
So personal choice: McAfee
Your choice: Whatever you decide

In my spare time I test antivirus an antispyware program in my backup pc to see if they perform as claimed.
Stay away from Nortons & Mcafee, as they are the very worse junk on the market for years. An each they continue to get worse. They eat up all your resources, unable to find any virus or even know one if you are hit. Plus they are unable to remove as claimed. (The virus still remains in your pc).
What is rate as 1-2-3-4-5, is not always the best. There are lots of free programs that are far superior an in my opinion excellent state of the art technology that is light years ahead of the rated ones.
Here are two for antivirus programs. The first one is free and second one you pay a one time fee for life. Includes all updates and new versions.
You can only use one antivirus program or you will have conflict with your system. You can use three or four anitspyware programs without conflict. Plus you want one good firewall that will protect your incoming/outgoing traffice. Windows XP Prof., only protects you via incoming. You are not protected with any traffice that leaves your pc.
http://www.avast.com I use this antiviurs free for home use in my backup pc. Never had one virus in over nine years. They are out of Prague.. You will have to give them your email address and they will send your a free key that is good for one year. After one year you must request a new free key. The corporate version is the same as the free version, they just make corporate pay for each key.
http://www.filseclab.com This antivirus program I use in my primary pc. This program is also used by the Government of China, and the company is out of Beijing, China. You only pay a one time fee for live, that includes all updates, new versions an excellent support. (Both are equal in my opinion). Never had one virus in over nine years. This program fee is one time for life of $29.99
As for spyware, I use a software program from Austria, http://www.emsisoft.com A2 Malware, their purchased version. You can also download their free home use version and the only difference is you don't get the background guard or automatic updates. (This program I found that their background guard really works and stops and will automatic destroy any embedded spyware on any webpage if opened).
I use ADSL, if you use dial up A2Malware is excellent protection against rogue dialers.
I also use http:www.lavasoft.com Their free home use personal version, Ad-Adware Se Personal. They our out of sweden and have been around long before anybody ever even dreamed of antispyware security.
Windows Defender is pure junk. It may be free, but does not scan enough of your system, plus it will miss most of the spyware.
One antispyware program that I really liked is http://www.superantispyware.com It will find what all other miss, an especially the very hard spyware. (The only problem is while I was testing I found that it had an embedded adware in the program). So you don't want it even though the adware was rated low.
Excellent free firewall I use in both of my computers.
ZoneAlarm free home personal use version. (You don't want any package that is a firewall, antispyware, antivirus). They don't work, as you really need seperate programs for each function.
ZoneAlarm free for home use, will update daily automatic, and will notify you when there is a new version. You will just download the new version and their software will remove the old version. Perform a clean install. This means you will give permission for incoming traffic all over again. This is the safer way rather then having the new version copy the instruction in your system as to what you want to allow to come into your pc.
Well I hope that I have been of help to you.

Hey there,
That mostly boils down to preference. But I prefer Norton Internet Security 2007, and so does PC Magazine:

There is also ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6.5
Cheers,
