I've been on my current job for six months and I like it. I get paid well, treated good and the job is great. But I just met my ex-boss -which was very good to me as well- and he offered me to re-join the company I worked for before with the same position I have now but a slightly bigger salary.

I worked for that company for three years, and they tried to hold me back when I decided to move for a way bigger salary to my current company, to no avail. I'm contemplating right now, but I need some insights.

So, aside from the slight raise of current salary, what would really make you move back if you were me?

Omigod, you guys have given me so much stuff to think about in under ten minutes :) I think it is true that my old office let me down once by letting me go. But yes, I have to think this through. Gosh you have no idea how much your answers help me here. And the more I get them, the better. Even though I have to choose "the best answer" eventually, I just want to thank you all in advance for taking the time to answer my question. They're really good answers, by the way. This is a huge support for me :)

A "slight" raise would definately not be enough to go back (for me). Especially to the same/similar boss/position. There is likely to be animosity (whether with your immediate boss, or other managment members) or just a stigma that would weigh heavily against any slight raise or perks for coming back.

Now if it was a substantial raise, or a better position with more opportunity to promote and distant (I guess depends on size of company) from the management you left - might be worth considering.

well to be very honest, i have been with the same company for about 13 years, there have been ups & downs, but i kinda of prefer less salary, better working conditions. However i feel that once you have moved on, you should not go back, somehow its like your childhood sweetheart, its never the same the second time around. If you seriously want to make a career, you should look for long term, not just salary package. you might want to consider options 2 organizations dont end the world.

Where will you have a greater oppertunity in five years? If you have a bigger chance of advancement with your current employer then stay but if there is more future potential in your old company then you need to think about going back.

It boils down to how you want to be perceived by future employers. ...... Ask yourself which company offers the greater potential for the future for you.
Didn't your former employer let you down once?
Maybe they don't like hiring 2 people to replace your good work.

Because and I quote: "I've been on my current job for six months and I like it. I get paid well, treated good and the job is great" you should be reluctant to back-pedal.
just a thought.

First, nothing could get me back into MY old office.

But for you, I'd ask for even more money, a company vehicle, and a good parking space. But still, if you like your current job, then I'd stay there.
