Take a tall narrow glass, put in some water and top it off with apple cider vinegar, then add a drop or two of dishwashing liquid. Make sure that you have no fruit or veggies out where they can get to them...within a day or so, your fruit flies should be gone.

I left the light on in the kitchen one night by mistake. They crawled into the lamp fixture and couldn't get out so they all died. I know it can be an ongoing problem if you keep fruit (especially bananas) around. Also you can buy some kind of sticky strips just for fruit flies at your local hardware store.

Get rid of rotting food and exposed fruit, unclog the drain and/or pour boiling water down it, take out the trash often. Beyond that, get some bug spray, I used a pyrethrin-based spray, it's safe to use around food and people.

remove all the fruit if you have some in a bowl or something on your counter this will usually take care of the problem. Make sure to dispose of the fruit outside and wash the container it was in.

make sure your fruit is all fresh that you leave out. You need to remember to rinse off any fruit you bring in from the store.

get rid of what is causing them to be there. There is always something there even if you don't see it, that is causing them to be there. Find that, and they will go away. Don't find that, and you can spray as much as you want, but they won't go away.

Place a glass of wine or vinegar somewhere and they will flock to it, and then die once they hit the liquid.
