The car is 14 years old. During its life the hatchback door must have been opened and closed hundreds of times. The wiring at the point where the door hinges is probably faulty. The insulation may have cracked and you have a short circuit when you switch the heater on. Check the wiring. Don't just replace the fuse with one of a higher rating. That won't solve the problem.

it sounds like a wire is grounding out somewhere...but check what else runs off the same fuse it might not be the rear window wiring but a different wire that runs off that fuse also

sounds like a short circuit somewhere or a defective relay. Be careful playing with that circuit, they can be up to 30amps and can give you a nasty shock.
Get hold of a multimeter and do a continuity test on the circuit, then disconnect its eart and try again, if it stil has continuity then you have a short.
