Getting around school filters?
Alright I am a computer programming major in college
(which I go to full time), and I go to private high school full time. To complete my homework for my college classes I cannot enter the sites that I need during my 95 minute high school clase. I really need to update my sites and do my college homework but I cannot because of the school filters. I dont want to hear people telling me to take harder classes I am in full IB classes and have a 4.2... and no if any one asks you taxpayers dont pay for my school I go to private school. I also am doing two sports and going to college full time as well. I dont want people to criticize what I am doing in my free time. I am not trying to bypass the filter to go on something stupid like myspace, I am really trying to get my work done. None of the proxies or options people gave me before worked, I have tried everything possible and if anyone has a private proxy that would work great

Wow... you're kind of taking the offensive there in defending yourself, aren't you? I don't think people really care about what you're doing or not doing in your surfing time...

Anyway, some proxy sites that I came across are:

http://access.4clever.com/
http://www.easybypass.com
http://www.phproxy.org
http://www.proxysites.org

Good luck!

Sorry. There is nothing you can do to bypass this. Talk to the IT Department at your school. If it is legitimate, then they will add your IP address as an (exception) to bypass the filter.

Proxy sites, in my opinion, are not the way to go. And on top of that, there is VERY little chance that they will work. You are on a private network (which has nothing to do with the private school by the way). Your IP address will not be scene as a publicly routable address. I know this sounds a little geeky, but follow me here.

Your address is private in computer talk. Outside websites cannot translate your computer address to make sense for your computer to visit other outside addresses. Your school's router does that.

So, talk to your IT Department. It’s as simple as that. Like I said, if it is legit, then they shouldn't have a problem of letting you bypass the filter for a little bit. Otherwise, try an Internet Cafe or a friend's house.

And as far as what, John said:

"There is not much that you can do except get a laptop (if you don't have one) and get wireless Internet for it. The school would have no control over where you can and can't go."

He is right, only if you get wireless access through a cell phone provider, or through someone that has wireless access OUTSIDE of the school network. If the school offers wireless, and you connect to them, you are still left with the same situation.

Cheers,

Dan

instead of doing 2 sports do 1, get your parents to buy you a computer, if they pay for private school they could buy you a PC, and do your homework at home like everyone else!
