I believe I had the same problem. The antivirus would not update no matter what I tried, although Norton tried their best to help me, I was nearly at the end of my rope. I corresponded with Norton through one on one e-mail. Norton may give you a link to correct the problem, as they did me, didn't work for me, but finally I removed Norton antivirus, and Synmantec. I then reinstalled Norton antivirus, and the problem was solved. Hope this works for you, if you decide to try it. Good luck!

I had the exact same problem. It turns out the Norton firewall was blocking the Norton anti-virus from updating, even though the firewalls setting were set to allow the updates. If you have a firewall disable it temperarily and then try updating. If you get through then it is the firewall that is the problem.

Why the hell use norton when you can get some FREE and BETTER antivirus software. Try Avast (Home Edition), it rocks!

If you're using WinXP, go to MSCONFIG (Start-run-msconfig), then go to the startup tab, then uncheck everything EXCEPT CCAPP.EXE or anything that remotely looks like Norton.

After that, hit APPLY, CLOSE, then reboot. Go back to Live Update and see what happens.

You must have a old computer...you do not have a big enough CPU and you are weak for ram. Norton will freeze a computer if it is old and weak.
