If it's gas mileage you're worried about, don't. Motorcycles give you a lot of concrete per gallon as-is. My 2005 fuel injected Hayabusa does 37.5 mpg in town. If it's emissions you're worried about, keep in mind that almost all motorcycles are now fuel injected, which was a big step towards efficiency AND performance. Some new bikes now have catalytic converters, even though the sport bike guys hate the weight and performance loss. I have read of experimental bikes running on methane and E85 ethanol based fuels, but the consensus is that we're years away from a true alternative fuel motorcycle. The "why" is simple. Motorcycles are limited by weight (so fuel cells and electric motorcycles with batteries won't work) and storage (methane and ethanol take more storage capacity than traditional fuel).

bikes already get super-great gas mileage...
