My Medical Insurance covers 90% of our medical bills related to giving birth. Since 10% is our responsibility, what is the average cost of giving birth without Insurance? Just curious.

Before insurance, my birth came to just over $6000. I had a natural birth with no anaesthesia, so if you plan on an epidural, it will be more. I believe c-sections run from $8000-$10,000 if you need one.

Also remember that your baby will accumulate costs at the hospital as well. My son's bill came to $3000 (though he needed a few additional tests).

Well, we do not have health insurance and I recently became pregnant, but then had a miscarriage, so we did look into the cost. For us, we were told for a regular vaginal birth we would need to pay about 3500 up front which includes all of the Dr visits, then the hospital bill was going to be around $14,000.

You are very lucky to have 90% of it paid.

To have a baby in a hospital it will cost between 5-6 Thousand dollars. If you don't have insurance, check with medicaid to see if you qualify for their program, it pays all your Dr's appointments and hospital bills for having a baby. But you must meet their income requirements. Other options include having a home delivery with a midwife if you can't afford the hospital bill.

Guess it depends on if you have a natural birth or need a c-section---how many days you are in the hospital or if you have any complications----I would say if everything is "normal" it would cost about $1K (with insurance)---without it's more like $10K

Good luck to you and congrats!

If you're talking about just the birth and not any of the prenatal care, it was $7400 for our hospital stay, $2600 for the doctor, and $1495 for the epidural (including the doctor).
