I was nervous as hell and they played a lot of Johney Cash. I had bud lights to drink and was freaked out when the drag queens came in. I am sorry they just scare me. Kind of like clowns do. I think it is the make up. Gives me the willies just thinking about it. Later after all the gays kept telling me they didn't think I was really gay I found the g0ys website and identified wiht them. Now I go to the gym not the gay bar. LOL

A close friend who lived in California (and who had already came out) came home to visit. I told him and some other close friends that I was gay, and my gay friend from CA and a straight friend decided that they wanted to take me to my first experience at a gay bar. After we went through the door, the song "Go West" by the Pet Shop Boys came on. I hadn't heard it before, so as I ordered a Bud Light I asked the bartender if she knew what song it was. She went up to the DJ booth to find out and came back and told me. The feeling of being somewhere where most of the people were just like me was a great experience and made me not feel guilty for who I am. Within a month, I was out to everybody and everytime I hear that song I can't help but get a little smile on my face.

It was before gay rights and I was 23 years old and in the military. I went to a gay bar in town. It took me about 3 or 4 separate attempts before I got the courage to go in. I was dressed in civilian clothes and didn't have to worry about the MP's busting me. I ordered a cold beer on a cold night and shivered for hours. Some older guy picked me up and I was so scared I almost pissed my pants, plus the guy was a foreigner from Sweden with foreign magazines laying around. All I would do is let him go down on me. When he tried to kiss me I pushed him away. I realize now that I must have not been much fun for him. It took me a long time to adjust to gay life. I went through a safe bisexual stage for about 1 year. I have had a lot of experience with the boys & have had many relationships since but have never really fit into the complete gay culture. I think I am a closet-straight. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picture it ... Sicily .... *just kidding* !! No, seriously, I headed out for my first gay bar experience the day after I turned 21. I really can't recall the song that was playing cause I was just too damn scared. I do remember however what I had to drink ... sucking BudLights like a fish! I do recall at the end of the night the song "California Dreamin'" ... but it was all pumped up. Some sort of remix.... it rocked!

There's nothing like the 'first time'. I had just turned 21 and a friend took me to a club called Rage in West Hollywood. Lots of boys my age with great bodies dancing around without a shirt in semi-darkness puncuated with strobe lights. A dance mix version of 'Go West' by the Pet Shop Boys was playing and we were all drinking Corona's.

I was completely blown away. Prior to this I had thought all gay bars were filled with tired old mustached men in leather captain's hats smoking constantly. Boy was I wrong.

I remember my first time. I was on holidays. I didn't actually want to admit I was gay at the time. When I got to the bar though I felt more comfortable there than I had anywhere else before - stuff those hetro bars.

I believe the first song they had on was Kylie - how gay is that and my drink was Coke and Malibu - my lethal drink - I don't handle drinks well.

You certainly had a strange first time.

Last friday night. I had a crown and coke and I don't remember any particular song. It wasn't as "gay" as I expected but I really had a lot of fun. It was the first time I loosed up in public and just had a good time. BTW, I came out last week, thus a lot of things are new to me right now....

I love questions like this! I do remember, it was an old bar in Lansing, Michigan. A friend of mine took me there and I was terrified and excited at the same time.
I had a Captain and Coke and Stevie Nick's "Edge of 17" was playing.
It took alot of courage for me to go back by myself but I will never forget how nice and accepting everyone was.

I also ordered a bottle of bud, but I don't remember what music was playing. So many other things going on in my mind that I didn't give that any attention.

I'd never been in a club before because even when I reached 18 I looked much younger, but my (then) boyfriend Paul took me and my best friend M (he's told me not to put his real name on here or he'll thump me!) to one, and I can't remember the music, but Paul drank lemonade because he was driving, and M had Jack Daniels, and I had Bacardi Breezers, and we had a fantastic time, and I snogged M a little bit in the back of the car on the way home, but Paul didn't mind too much, because we were both drunk and just messing about. (I think he would have said yes to a threesome, but M wouldn't do that). Sorry, what was the question? I got a bit distracted. Happy times...
