It jerks and rumbles when at a red light and sometimes it just dies. When I start the car to reverse out of parking, it's ok but it just revs up and does not move when I have it in drive for a few minutes. Is it a transmission problem? Firestone won't even do a trans-flush for me and said it sounded like I need a trans rebuilt. How much would that cost, does anyone know? Or how much would it roughly cost to get a new trans altogether? It's a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3. This model also had fuel pump problems but I've already had that replaced. I hate this car.

It is a transmission problem, at this point I don't think a flush would do much of a good, might get a little better with new fluid and some additives to thicken the fluid. Reason being your transmission is wornout on the inside and because it uses the pressure to drive and to switch gears, it takes a little time to build up the pressure before you can drive. I guess you don't drive much in reverse, thats why its still fine. By the way FORD stands for FIX OR REPAIR DAILY! Good luck! Hey, if it quits going forward, you can allways drive in reverse?!

It can be any thing. But, look for some possibility that you can fix it without rebuild tran. It won't shift if your shifter cable is loose. or too tight. I will try to suck out tran's fluid and replace it' just for the shake of it.. If you engine have no power that's will not go either. The engine should be strong and deliver power. You said, It die that isn't sound right if problem is only on the tran.

You need a new tranny. If it is almost paid for rebuild the tranny then sell. get your distributor checked that can be causing you some of the problems i have 96 camero with an LT1 and I changed several things and took it in to the chevy dealership twice it was doing a lot of the same things your car is doing the distributor was bad. get it checked.

They all can be junk from Honda to Chevy, It is all about how the car has been taken care of from the start.
