Zinedine Zidane. He could slow games down, speed games up, score goals, create goals, tackle, pick a pinpoint ball, turn on a sixpence and beat people time after time. The greatest all round player I have ever seen......

Kevig Keegan - No, he wasn't the greatest footballer ever - BUT he gave 100% in every single game he played in - and that's what counts for more than all the skills in the world.

Even he once said "I'm not the best footballer in the word, so I have to try harder" and by golly, he did.

A player like that can do so much for a team, he sets an example and gives them confidence.

George Best! Just google video "NASL Best greatest goal" watch the video and decide for yourself. it can also be found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2HWUbFGHMU

This is the reported story behind the video:

A few plays before Best was fouled at midfield but kept his feet. He said to the referee something to the effect that "i had the advantage, why did you stop play?" The referee responded that there was no way he had advantage from midfield and would never have scored.

Best went on to take the ball a few moments later Best took the ball from about 30 yards out, beat 5 players including one twice, reportedly going at the player a second time and asking him if he wanted more of that!

Best scored the best individual effort goal i have ever seen!

Ronaldo because he is not only a great and talented footballer, but also he is a great man. He set an example for people all over the world when he fought his leg injuries to come back and help his team win the world cup 2002 campaign. Anyone who can fight their own ails and still come back and be one of the best of the best has my due respect for life!! He is my role model.

As someone said - it's like comparing apples and oranges. How can you compare a great defender or goalkeeper to a great midfielder or forward? So ...

Greatest goalkeeper ever: Antonio Carbajal (Mexico)

Greatest Defender ever: Franz Beckenbauer

Greatest Midfielder ever: Zinedine Zidane

Greatest Forward ever: Pele

that question is like comparing apples and oranges!
1) maradona- one of the best, great skills, carried argentina to a world cup victory!
2)pele- the other greatest player, greatest scorer(more than 1,000 goals!!)
3)ronaldhinio- greates player at this time.
4)podoski- possibly the greatest player to be!
5) buffon- proably the best keeper alive!

it's hard to chose just one when there's so many factors to concider!

HERNAN CRESPO...believe it or not people there is another Argentine, aside from Maradona, who can play football.

Crespo is one of the world's best payed footballers, Behind Zidane, and that is for a reason. The man is "the ultimate poacher" and I think he is constantly proving his worth... I truly hope he makes it to 2010...it would be an honor to have him here in South Africa!!!
