In what country?

I have to say, for the US or for Canada, I have to say no. Both countries were founded on Christian principles, by Christians.

A candidate should not run on a religious platform (state and church separate, remember?) of any variety.

God has nothing to do with politics. As far as war is concerned everyone always says God is on their side. So yes I would vote for them depending on their other views. Also note the politicians we have now are always swearing to God to tell the truth & do their best but in God's view it doesn't seem to make a difference.

God, currently, is undefined.
The term means too many things to too many people and consequently means nothing.

If a politician came along who said he doesn't believe in this undefined "God", I would see that as a courageous act of reason. It would then behoove us all to see what other bold social and political positions the individual holds which might indicate political greatness.

On a related note, I think all politicians who say they "believe in God" should be asked to define what the term "God" means to them. If they can't, and they still believe, then we know for a fact they are psychotic (out of touch with reality, believing in things that don't exist).

Depends on their stance on the issues, personal intregity, etc. Whether or not they believe in god is irrelevant to me.

Also, The US was not founded on Christian Principles by Christians -- the six most important founders — Franklin, Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison and Hamilton — subscribed, in different ways, to the Enlightenment faith called deism. Deists rejected the Incarnation, hence the divinity of Jesus. I get tired of the repetition of the "Christian Founders" myth.

I would categorically NOT vote for someone who tells me to vote for them because they believe in God. Their belief should be private. Look where all that has got us.

NO! It's bad enough when they do. However, if they would use the Bible to guide their decisions, then I would trust them, but, most of them, even if they believe in God, do not turn to His word for guidance. So, if you look around at world conditions, you can understand that they have not been able to solve problems on their own, in fact, they are pretty good at creating them.

It would be more difficult to vote for such a person.
