This is a country based on certain freedoms. The freedom to express and opinion. Just because they said they were ashamed that the president was from the same state as them in my opinion is not reason to stop buying there music and say that they are unamerican, If anything they are more than american for doing this. The people that boycottted them because of this and only becuase of this are small minded people. The girls have a nice sound. I do not even listen to country music and I was upset by the treatment they recieved. We all have our opinion about the president and weather you like him or do not like him is you right and your opinion. The girls have a new album out Will you buy it???

I am in total agreement with you. I am disgusted by Pres. Bush and I think it was ridiculous how the Chicks were treated. I'm not sure if I'll buy their new album, but their previous three albums were really great.

I have never really been a fan of theirs, but I definitely have a lot more respect for them for taking a stance and not backing down from it. It's one thing for a punk band like NOFX to speak their minds and question the president's intentions, as most of their fans expect them to do so. Buth the Dixie Chicks knew their fan base was significantly more right-winged, and they knew that their comments would be very controversial.

I saw the preview for their movie yesterday, and they showed a clip of some guy protesting them who made the brilliant comment, "Move to France, Dixie Chicks." That really angered me. I hate that there's such an anti-French sentiment in this country. If it wasn't for France, we never would have gained our independence. They helped us out when we needed it the most, and how do we repay them? We criticize them and start calling french fries freedom fries. They were also the ones that gave us the Statue of Liberty, which is our greatest symbol of freedom and liberty.
In conclusion, the Dixie Chicks should be praised, as they are more patriotic than George W. Bush himself.

Yes, I agree with you. This country is founded on freedom of speech. Natalie Maines never spoke out against America, she only spoke out against Bush. If our freedom of speech only goes far enough to allow us to say something that agrees with the majority, then we really don't live in freedom, but facism.

On the other hand, the Dixie Chicks are country singers and Natalie should have thought more about how her comment would be received by her audience before she said it.

Nope, don't feel they were treated unfairly. They are a country music group, and people who listen to country music are pretty patriotic, so that little fat chick should have known better than to go dissing the president. She's dumber than a box of rocks.

I would buy it. I don't like country, but I loved the Dixie Chicks, and I thought they got a bum rap. But at the time, and where this nation was maybe wasn't the thing to do. Now everyone dislikes Bush. I don't live in TX. I'm ashamed for them. )O(

What I find funny is that people stand up for their right to free speech but talk smack about those that exercised their right to not like what they said and their right to free choice.

I have the right to call you an idiot but you also have the right to not like me for it.

When you rely on the audiance for a living, you shouldn't tick off your audiance. The people that listen to Country typically LIKE GW and it was completely stupid of them to say what they did and not expect to turn people away.

It's kinda like being a rapper and calling MLK an idiot or praising the Klan. Sure, you have the right to do it but you will make your audiance not like you.

It's all about common sense and they clearly have little to none.

I won't buy the album just because they are not my style.

Actually, I dont like Country at all. But I do respect them for voicing their opinions, so much that I actually bought my wife their last CD in support of them. Their music still sucks, but so what.. they are 100% entitled to voice their opinion about Bush and his administration, and the people who bashed them are totally ignorant.

I won't buy it, because I hate country music. But, I do feel that they were treated unfairly. They excercised their right to free speech--it doesn't get any more American than that.

I even liked it that they ( as public people) expressed them selves and will buy there new CD. But maybe it is 'cause we are not that narrow minded in The Netherlands.
