Kids follow what they parents do. So you should take care of your parents first. Raise your kids in a christian way, and your kids will know how to honor their parents when they are old.

the generation now has become so busy with wanting more of everything.. and the price of everything has gone up.. it use 2 be where it took only dad, 2 have a job and raise a family.. and now it take's mom and dad's, job just 2 keep food on the table.. there's more 2 do and so much more 2 see in our world.. not like the days of old where family gatherings on Sunday, was what so many families did : ) and i don't think a child can or will take care of their parents, when they grow old, no matter how they are raised,, because they have 2 work.. it's a rush rush world.. and 2 put the brakes on our kids, would surely make them miserable.. when i become a few step away from useless, then thats the time i need a nursing home.. now i don't know the law from state 2 state, but some states, will take your home and bank account, if you go into a nursing home..you might not want 2 wait till the last moment 2 do some checking around.. so protect yourself in that area.. check the law in your state.. bummer eh..

The goal of my occupation (home support worker) is to provide care for the elderly in their own homes so hopefully they won't have to go to a home. The best defense is to stay as physically and mentally well as possible....mild exercises and brain exercises (puzzle books) and also have a good intake of Omega 3 and 6 (brain food). Some of my clients are in their 90's and will likely never go into an old-age home.

the golden rule.
treat others as you would have them treat you.
you do it by example
don't put your own mom or grandma in a home.
take care of them at your house to set an example.
besides i think you are making an assumption that
a home is a dumping ground. People usually go to that
when they are UNABLE to care for the person at home anymore.
You should try taking care of a person as they age
before you judge the immorality of using a home.
many of the elderly improve after they go to a 'home'
because the place is designed to meet their needs.

Don't leave the decision up to your kids. Plan now for your retirement....save money to live on when you get old and invest in a place to retire to. Put in writing your wishes in terms of life sustaining treatments.

The best defense is planning ahead.

You don't put them in day care when they're young and you take care of your parents when they're old. You teach your kids that families care for their family members. Not with words, but actions.

Treat your children well, show them love, and teach them that family is important. If they see that family is something important to be cherished starting at a young age, then they'll understand that it's important to you to be with them in your old age.

If it doesn't run in the family most likely it won't happen because it's never happened in the family.
