Indianapolis may be a large city population-wise, but the metropolitan area (subarbs, surrounding cities) is much smaller than most cities with MLB teams. Also, the proximity of cities with MLB teams (White Sox, Cubs, Reds) is also a factor.

Because they just don't have one. They have a AAA minor league team. Columbus, OH doesn't have a major league team either, but has a AAA minor league team. There are many large cities that don't have professional sports teams, and some smaller ones that do. Maybe too there has been no interest in bringing a major league team to Indy.

With nearly a population of 800,000 people you would think Indianapolis would be deserving of a baseball team. Alas, the powers that be think that a football and basketball team is enough. Shame, I think Indy could support a baseball team. Hell Detroit has barely over 100,000 more residents and they have all major sports in that city.

That's a good question. I often wondered why Indy doesn't have a team. If they are to move the Devil Rays, move them to Indy, put them in the Central, and put the Tigers in the East to slug it out with the Yankees and Red Sox.
