Here's the deal. In the US and Canada, there have been a few studies that link smoking marijuana to problems such as low fetal birth weight, fetal alcohol-type features and symptoms, and irratable newborns. however, these tests are extremely flawed for teo major reasons. The first being that since marijuana is very illegal here and in Canada its extremely hard to find pregnant women to participte in studies. The second being that it is also extremely hard to find pregnant pot smokers who live a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy food, and do not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes.
So where do we go to do accurate research? Dreher went to Jamaica, to a village where marijuana is very socially accepted, and pregnant women smoke it or drink it as tea all the time. These people live natural lifestyles, eat healthy food, and do not use alcohol, cigarettes, or substances.
The results? In short, there were no differences between the kids born from the moms who used pot and the ones who didn't. in fact, the "pot babies" were calmer babies. These kids were rechecked at one month, and at school age. No problems. The study can be read in full by the links below.
Truly, poor nutrition, alcohol, chemical exposure, and nicotene are far worse alone or in any combination than organic herb, but I feel that if a pregnant person should choose to use it, they should not smoke it, but take it as a tincture or tea.

No, I can't smoke marijuana during my pregnancy -- because I wouldn't want my baby to have birth defects, inner ear problems, and lifelong developmental, cognitive, and attention problems.
I sure hope you won't smoke marijuana (or drink) or take other street drugs during your pregnancy, either.
Its time for you to think about what's best for the baby, and make sacrifices for its wellfare. Marijuana is also illegal, as you know, and if your baby is born addicted, they might test it and take your baby away from you. I've heard of this happening.

Sure you can, if you want a good possibility of birth defects. And no one knowledgeable can say there aren't any birth defects from marijuana because I've witnessed them. A friend of mine smoked while she was pregnant and ended up with a baby with a space between his eyes so large that you could fit 10 eyes between it. The doctor knew right away that she had smoked it and her baby was taken away.

If you want the best for your baby, don't.
A good rehab might help your baby and you.
There have been laws in different parts of the country concerning the issue of drug use during pregnancy. Some states have considered drug use during pregnancy the same thing as giving drugs to minors. Check your local laws.

you can do it if u want to but i would really recommend not to. it can make the baby come out with physical disabilities and or also mental disabilities, please think about it and avoid drugs, it might make u feel good but just for smoking it for the 9 months of pregnancy you can mess up the future of the creature who hasn't even seen the world yet.

my cousin and his wife did during their pregnancy, the baby was kindof slow, not mentalretardation or nothing but he is delayed in speech, he gets in dazes, hes kindof fussy cause he cant explain what he wants, he s 2 1/2yrs, its not autism but he is learning more now that he has a speech therapist. those toxins from weed get into the blood stream of the mom and baby so it effects the child alot.

You can do whatever you want, you're (hopefully) an adult. But just remember that whatever you're eating, drinking or smoking, your tiny, fragile, INNOCENT infant is eating, drinking and smoking too. If you're not able to make a smart decision about something this simple, you're not ready to be a mom.

I have an aunt that smoked (weed and cigs) while she was pregnant with ALL four of her children... they are all healthy but were all born tiny (low birth weight) so its not really a good idea, plus your child will come out addicted to nicotine and high.

You can, but you shouldn't. If the baby is born addicted he/she will have withdrawls an then you wont be leaving with the baby. I work with drug exposed babies and they are tested at birth and put directly into foster care.
