Gore-free?
All the John Carpenter mind-bending movies (e.g., In the Mouth of Madness), old Stepehen King (Christine, It, Salem's Lot, The Shining), and M. Night Shyamalan films (Lady In The Water, The Village, Signs, and The Sixth Sense).
Gore and Guts?
Anything with a sequel: Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Psycho, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Night of the Living Dead...
Sleepless nights?
Go with Asian scare flicks! The Grudge, The Ring, etc.
Why don't you go Ghost Hunting and make your own film? Get some copper wire, a spirit pendulum, and a camera with Night Vision....
Happy Halloween!

If you haven't seen the first Saw yet, try that, the twist it takes are great and the final few scenes will get you. the Exorcist, especially if you have a somewhat religious background will freak you out. the first 2 or 3 Friday the 13ths are good too.
