I have a down comforter that I use all year long but it is white and I always put a "seasonal" comforter on top of it. I got a new winter comforter it is just a cheap Martha Stewart one but it is very itchy, and stiff. I have washed it twice and it hasn't helped. I can't wash it from home I have to take it to the laundry mat because it is a king size and doesn't fit in my washer or dryer. I really like this comforter and would like to use it but it just isn't comfortable or functional because it is too stiff.
Help please! :)

The next time you take it to the laundromat, add at least 1-11/2 cups of white vinegar to your rinse water. It will cause the fibers to relax and soften while it will lock in the color and keep it from fading over time. I would still put a couple of clean tennis balls in with it in the dryer and use fabric softener sheets in the dryer as well. Don't worry the vinegar smell dissapates in the dryer.

The next time you wash it, try using an Downy fabric softener. I'd use a little more than recommended because the comforter is so large. This has worked for me in times past.

When I do mine, I wash it with my detergent, and fabric softer (Very important). Then, when drying, put in 2 fabric softner sheets, and 2 tennis balls....works awesome...I promise. The tennis balls fluff your comforter while drying, and prevents lumping.

wash wash and wash some more. Use fabric softener. Some materials are stiffer than others or at least feel stiffer (i.e. - low thread count sheets feel stiffer than high thread count sheets)
