Most criticism I hear is based upon the government. If people judge America by it's government and leader, it's not that positive of an outlook either. All countries have a shift in power over history, at one point France helped the US gaining independence from Britain.
Also, the people themselves have interesting culture. It is different from America. I don't think it's snobbish. I think it's etiquette, that some of us have lost in the midst of our growth as a country.
Opinions on this subject please.

A lot of the answers here deal with was and their stance on it. Like the fact they wanted to research Iraq more for "weapons of mass destruction" and America bullied itself in, turns out... they were right. And if comes to being cowards then why not hate Switzerland, they haven't fought for anything. They simply have money, so we like them. Interesting capitalistic view, no?

But people do hate America because of its leaders, not just Bush, but Clinton and Bush Sr., Reagan, and on and on. I don't hate the french, but I dislike their arrogance, their holier than thou attitude. They are struggling to keep sanity in their own country as they are losing their power on their homeland. Yet they feel they have the knowledge and insight to tell us and many others how we are so wrong in our actions. There isn't another country that is like another, they find us snobbish, bullies, arrogant, etc... too. Why should I show respect to those who will not respect me our my country? I'm not that nice.

The French have some great ideas. From what I understand they have some problems like our government did in the 50 and 60s with civil rights (the whole rioting issues that went on a year ago, that never got resolved). French want their independence from us which I think has caused most of the problems. They dont like us and are very open about it. I think that because of this it would be natural to expect many Americans to respond in kind. Not the most mature attitude but it is one just the same. Current head of France, Chirac, does not agree with Bushes political agendas at the moment. I think because of this it has only added to the hostile nature between the two countries. French (and US) policies a side, our governments have done a lot together and a lot of good together too.

The french civilization was based on an aristocracy that was for the most part corrupt and immoral. (Look up Marie Antoinette)
Even the language,s complexity was based on making sure the peasant couldn't keep up with th grammatical exception rules, so they could be distinguished by the way they speak.
French people like to give themselves an air of sophistication and know-it all-ism. And that also irritates many people, except themselves of course.
Even french Canadians have difficulty getting along with them and, yes, we were abandoned to their own fate against the British colonies here in Canada, when the brits wanted to take over Canada.
So historically their picture is not quite brilliant to the rest of the world, I'd say.

WW2, followed by the French turning thier backs. That's the just of it.
Little joke: The other day I heard that the French up'd there defense level. They are now one away from all out surrender.
Also, the only reason the French helped the US during the american revolution was b/c the French thought that they'd get some land in return.

I don't hate the French. How could you hate a whole country of people.. besides they make beautiful food, art, music, architecture and so on. Americans alot of times don't like European countries because they are "stuck up".. what we don't take into account is that these countries are soooooo much older than us..and with our foibles and follies paired with our position of power and yea..raging huge ego..it's easy for them to literally look on us as children in the global community. I think France stands out because they do tend to rub our noses in it a lil more than other euro. countries.

Why do so many people just LOVE France and the French? I notice it's usually Democrats and "liberals" who defend France all the time, making it out to be such a "wonderful, progressive place." Fact is, it's NOT. France is having serious problems with race relations, crime, its economy, and its entire system in general.
Also, many seem to say that France was so righteous in not joining us in tis "illegal war." Gee, how noble of them. Meanwhile, we discovered that France (along with Russia, Germany, and perhaps a few others) sold WMD technology to Saddam. Wow, how "pacifist" of them.
Love Jack
PS I don't "hate" the French or anyone. I just focus on reality.

Funny how everyone remembers how we saved them in WWII but forgets all about how they saved us in the Revolutionary War. But the real reason why they are demonized in our media is because they represent a thriving Socialist Democracy (like Venezuela). We have a Capitalist Democracy where you get to vote and you can buy anything for the right price (including elections, legislation, ect.), but under Socialist Democracy there are certain things that aren't for sale (ie. elections, legislation, ect.). Also, because they named a street for Mumia Abu Jamal and Uncle Sam doesn't like it when you call him on his own BS,

Because France had the nuts to follow what the UN said instead of the US. People in France have better eating habits therefore they are skinnier and Americans are jelous.

I agree with some of what you say, but in my opinion the French have a chip on their shoulder. I think they see themselves as a world power, but they are not, so anything they can do to poke a eye in the US they will do, because we represent the influence in the world that they once had, but do not have anymore.
